"Alertable" is the District’s primary municipal notification system, keeping you informed about timely and relevant community updates for municipal projects, public input opportunities, road maintenance and waste management, permits and bylaw information, seasonal reminders (e.g. FireSmart information) and more.
How to Sign-up
Anyone can sign-up! You can choose to receive notifications by mobile app, text, email, or phone.
OPTION 1: DOWNLOAD THE APP
Follow the in-app instructions for set-up, including choosing your community, notification preferences, and sounds. For example, search for "Missinipe", "Potato Lake", "Eagle Point", etc. If your community does not show up, please email [email protected].

When you first download the app, the app is set by default to send notifications from multiple sources, including weather alerts from Environment Canada - this can be overwhelming. To set the app to only receive notifications from the District, go to Settings>Types and disable all notification types, except those listed under the "Other" category (the Other category is District notifications).

1. WHAT TYPES OF NOTIFICATIONS WILL NMS SEND THROUGH ALERTABLE?
Northern Municipal Services (NMS) will use Alertable to share a range of timely and relevant updates for municipal-specific topics, such as:

NMS does not use Alertable to notify residents of:

- Road maintenance and waste management updates
- Municipal project announcements
- Public input opportunities
- Permit and bylaw information
- Seasonal reminders (e.g. FireSmart information, how to prepare incase of an evacuation or emergency)
NMS recognizes the importance of balancing timely communication with respect for your time. Whenever possible, updates are planned and combined to reduce notification fatigue, while still ensuring you receive important community information.
NMS does not use Alertable to notify residents of:
- Fire bans: The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency (SPSA) issues, updates and rescinds fire bans for the District, including for northern settlements, resort subdivisions, and other subdivisions, individual properties and leases. Visit the SPSA website to view the fire ban static map or interactive map. SPSA also provides fire ban updates on their facebook page and news releases.
- Wildfire status updates (area, not/contained, resources deployed, etc.): refer to SPSA's daily wildfire update or wildfire maps.
- Fire restrictions in Provincial Parks and Recreation Sites: refer to SaskParks webpage for current fire restrictions.
- Provincial highway updates (e.g. road accidents and closures): refer to the Highway Hotline
- Power outages: refer to the SaskPower outages webpage or app.
- SaskTel outages: visit the SaskTel outages webpage for current outages or choose to receive "Telephone" notifications in the Alertable or SaskAlert app.
- Nuisance or aggressive wildlife in the community: call the TIP line 1-800-667-7561 or report it online (more info here.). Call 911 if wildlife is an immediate threat to human safety.
- Community events not organized by NMS (e.g. Canada Day/community day celebrations)
- Boating/ATV/snowmobile accidents: call 911.
- Weather alerts: there are lots of options here - you can choose to receive weather notifications from Environment Canada in the Alertable, SaskAlert or Environment Canada app or the Weather Network app.
Residents can consider using a community WhatsApp group to keep up to date on the types of community updates listed above.
2. DO I NEED TO SIGN-UP TO RECEIVE CRITICAL PUBLIC SAFETY ALERTS?
At a minimum, critical public safety alerts for any municipality are pushed to all compatible mobile phones by the national Alert Ready system, no SaskAlert or Alertable app download required. Critical alerts include (but not limited to): community evacuations, flash floods, or active shooters.
What is a critical alert? A critical alert is where there is an immediate or potential threat to health, life, property and/or the environment - an emergency, such as a wildfire evacuation, flash flood, or active shooter.
Downloading SaskAlert or Alertable is not required to receive critical alerts on your cell phone.
What is a non-critical alert? A non-critical alert is where a situation causes trouble or difficulty, is annoying and usually makes you go out of your way to accomplish a task - an inconvenience, such as a fire ban or thunderstorm.
Downloading Alertable or SaskAlert provide options to stay up to date on non-critical alerts issued by various agencies.

No. To reduce app overload, residents can choose to receive District notifications and alerts from other agencies through Alertable only. This means you can rely on Alertable as your sole alert app to receive national, provincial and municipal alerts all in one app... although you might experience notification overload from other agencies with this approach.

We realize that not 100% of residents have access to email or a phone. There are a few alternative support options in this case:

- Family members can sign-up to receive notifications for the community their parent lives in. Family members do not have to live in the same community as their parent to receive notifications.
