Evacuations

Evacuation Orders are issued by Northern Municipal Services. Evacuation Orders will be communicated through SaskAlerts and the District's mass communication platform (Alertable).

Once the District has issued an evacuation order, the Saskatchewan Public Safety Agencies’ Emergency and Community Support (ECS) unit organizes the evacuation for District residents. ECS provides support resources including transportation, lodging, and meals for those who need assistance when a community is evacuated. In some cases, ECS may coordinate with the Red Cross where they are assisting an adjacent First Nation Reserve during an evacuation. However, ECS is still responsible for all assistance provided to evacuated District residents.

When	What to Do
BEFORE an Evacuation	Pre-register yourself and your family unit* for the SPSA's Saskatchewan Evacuation Registry (https://app.saskecs.ca) and indicate what type of assistance you may need including transportation, lodging, health concerns, allergies and dietary restrictions. Make a Plan: Having a family emergency plan ensures everyone knows what to do, where to go, and how to stay in touch during an emergency.
Evacuation Order ISSUED	When an Evacuation Order is issued, you must register for your specific Community’s Evacuation on SPSA’s Saskatchewan Evacuation Registry even if you will not require any assistance. They must know where you are. Authorities will only ask you to evacuate if necessary. Remember to: Take your emergency kit, ID, and essential documents Bring your phone and charger Take your pets or arrange for their care Lock your home Follow the designated evacuation routes Leave your home when you are advised to do so by local emergency authorities. Do not jeopardize the safety of your household, neighbours and emergency responders. Follow the routes specified by officials. Don't take shortcuts as they could lead you to a blocked or dangerous area. If you require lodging, they may not be able to accommodate your pets. Make alternate arrangements for pets and other animals. Time permitting, notify your family and friends that you have been evacuated. Do not return home until authorities have advised that it is safe to do so
Evacuation Order RESCINDED (ENDED)	Even though the evacuation order has been lifted, it may not be safe to immediately travel to or stay in your community due to damages caused by the emergency like water quality, power outages, road conditions, burnt trees, or other issues. Pay attention to any travel or other restrictions that may still be in place.

* For the purpose of completing the SPSA's Saskatchewan Evacuation Registry, a family unit is described, "(a) family unit includes your immediate and extended family members resident at your place of residence as well as any caregivers or individuals providing care to you or your immediate and/or extended family who is also resident at your place of residence."
