FAQ - Why Is the Village adopting an OCP and Zoning Bylaw?
The Village actually already has a Zoning Bylaw and an Official Community Plan (OCP) that was adopted in 2006. The proposed OCP and Zoning Bylaw was developed with mayor and council as part of a review of the 2006 bylaws. This review provides council with an opportunity to ensure the objectives and policies of the bylaws align with the community's goals and vision.
The 2006 OCP (historically known as the Basic Planning Statement) is still in effect until the 2018 bylaws are adopted by mayor and council and approved by the Minister of Government Relations. You can read the 2006 version on the Buffalo Narrows planning webpage here.
Another way to put it is: how did you look and think over 10 years years ago? Similar to the Village’s planning documents; they need to be spruced up every so often to keep pace with the Village’s current development goals and activities.
